Manchester sleaze tour 2022

Earlier this week, I ventured to Manchester city centre for the first time in a couple of years, so thought I'd use the opportunity to check up on some of the dens of iniquity I'd posted about in 2017. Some have weathered the storm of the last couple of years, some inevitably have not. In the 'have not' department are the fleshpots of tip street, sadly a shuttered up, graffitied over, shadow of their former selves. Making the photos from 2017 a piece of history now.

Still hanging on in there is the Love Boutique on Hilton Street, a place that seems to have shed it's name every time I visit Manchester- its previously been 'Soho Movies', 'Manchester's No 1 discount adult store' and 'The Love Box'.

A trip further down Oldham Street reveals a hitherto unknown branch of the Sullivan empire.

Over to Shudehill, and while the sex shop and tattoo parlor remain, the vintage book and vinyl shop at the end of the street now appears to have closed.

Now also consigned to history is the adult shop on Paton Street, which depressingly looks to have had the life sucked out of it since 2017.

Last but not least is the Arndale book and magazine exchange, still epitomizing everything you'd imagine a dirty book shop to look like, with a window display guaranteed to put a cheeky smile on the faces of those passing by...Elvis has left the building.
